Walk into Lake Side Emotions Wine Boutique, and you’ll quickly realize this is not your average liquor store. Owner Christophe has spent decades honing his craft, and learning what truly matters in a bottle of wine. Christophe believes a true wine lover discovers their passion by exploring new flavors and learning what delights or disappoints their palate. He helps customers discover the perfect bottle to match their palate, chosen for its character, not its name or price. “You don’t need to necessarily spend a lot of money to find a wine to your liking,” he explained. “You can find an incredible bottle at any price point if it matches your flavor profile.” Christophe began his wine journey at just 13, earning a coveted spot in a prestigious hospitality trade school in France. For three years, he split his time between the classroom and 12-hour shifts in restaurants, learning every facet of the industry, from the customer experience to fine dining etiquette. At first, he envisioned life as a chef, but an unexpected turn led him into the dining room and eventually into wine. After five years in Europe’s top dining rooms, Christophe moved to New York in 1992 and never left. He opened three restaurants of his own before turning his focus fully to wine in 2005, launching his shop in Stony Brook Village in 2010. Today, Christophe curates his collection with precision. He tastes hundreds of bottles each year, but only 5–10% make it onto his shelves. He curates wines that perfectly represent the character of their region as well as their grapes. “Wine is like perfume, some fit you better than others,” Christophe described. “And it’s like food, where you should care about what you bring into your body.” Christophe’s shop isn’t about brand labels - it’s about helping you discover what you genuinely enjoy. “Wine is a journey that never ends. We have sooooo many wines come across our tasting table that at times it's hard to pick which ones we want to bring in, and at a certain point we just have to say "Hey, it's time we give these wines their time to shine!" and the rhyme sells the... I ran out of words that rhyme with wine. It's a crime.
