🚍 PAWLING CSEA MEMBER NAMED DUTCHESS BUS DRIVER OF THE YEAR! 🚍
Please join us in congratulating Alan Barto on being named Dutchess County Bus Driver of the Year for 2025!
Barto, a member of the Pawling School District Unit, was honored today with this distinction during a presentation from Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino. He has worked in his current job for 14 years, safely transporting Pawling students to and from school.
Joining Barto's family at the presentation were current and retired colleagues from Pawling's Transportation Department. Unit Executive Vice President Sue Morgan represented CSEA.
The honors were timed to coincide with tomorrow's Operation Safe Stop, a statewide day when law enforcement will ramp up patrols in high-violation areas identified by school transportation staff in order to remind drivers of the consequences of disregarding school bus safety.
Reminders:
🛑 Drivers must stop when a school bus's red lights are flashing, including on divided highways, regardless of which direction the motorist travels.
🛑 Failure to comply can lead to fines ranging from $250 to $1,000, up to five points on a driver's license, and potential jail time.
🛑 Districts have added school bus safety cameras, which collect footage of drivers passing stopped buses.
