Rice Balls

One of the most intriguing cafes I have ever been to. Looking for it following Google Maps, I almost missed it and would have just gone back to Bangkok. It was like a treasure hunt looking for this simple yet fascinating café. It looked like it had been stitched together with trees, straw, wood, mud, bricks and everything from the rural vicinity. Do not be fooled by its unworldly beaten down appearance. Entering the low wooden doors hidden amongst vegetation, one enters a rather trippy world filled with Hindu inspired artwork amidst a kaleidoscope of wooden structures holding the place up. There are tiny cozy corners here and there where a couple could sit to enjoy the desserts conjured up by the friendly owner. We had a very traditional homemade Thai bread like thing served with 2 balls of ice cream. We sat upstairs where there are seating sections that can accommodate a little bit more than just a couple. I was told the owner does fortune telling too if one is interested. Red Soil Hut opened about 2 years ago and remains a highly elusive and exclusive place to visit. The owner told me he likes to travel. Loves to visit India to bring back ingredients which he infuses into the items served. It is best to call and check if the place is open, it was quite lucky of us to be able to visit. This café, in the vicinity of Khao Yai, is not far off the main Route 2 in the direction of Bangkok. It was like we were in a tiny wonderland of some sort.
