🌟 Words Matter: Building Vocabulary in Early Childhood 🌟
Did you know that a child’s vocabulary at age 3 can predict their reading success in elementary school? At Primrose School of Winfield, we know that language development is the foundation for learning, thinking, and communicating—and it all starts with words!
🧠 Why Early Vocabulary Matters:
Children’s brains grow rapidly in the first five years of life. The more words they hear and learn, the more neural connections are built, supporting reading comprehension, critical thinking, and social-emotional development.
🎨 Beat the Heat!
This week, our students learned vocabulary related to staying cool in the summer heat. We talked about fun ways to beat the heat—like eating a popsicle, sitting in the shade, going swimming, or relaxing under a fan. Then, the children drew or wrote about their favorite way to stay cool. It was a fun and engaging way to explore new words while connecting learning to real-life experiences!
👨👩👧👦 What You Can Do at Home:
Talk with your child about everything—no word is too big!
Read aloud together daily
Introduce new words during play and routines (e.g., “Let’s find some refreshing water!”)
💬 Every word learned is a step toward school readiness and lifelong success. Let’s keep growing those brains—one word at a time!
