Three Winter Playwriting classes coming up at iDiOM Theater. One-day Playwriting Bootcamp - December 29th. Three Saturday Intro to Playwriting - January 11, 25, and Feb 8 - 10am - 1pm Three Month Playwriting - January 11 - March 22 (Every other Saturday - 10am - 1pm) REGISTRATION: https://forms.gle/jC6uP9FsVRNvmSfw9 iDiOM Theater, a company dedicated to fostering local writing talent, is thrilled to announce two unique opportunities for aspiring playwrights to hone their craft. Led by iDiOM's Founder and Director, Glenn Hergenhahn-Zhao, these courses promise to be immersive experiences designed to unleash participants' creativity and refine their skills in the art of playwriting. ONE-DAY PLAYWRITING BOOTCAMP This three hour class gives a quick and practical intro to playwriting. From the basic nuts and bolts of what makes a script to the six lenses that makes a script thrive on stage. Learn the craft of world-building for the stage, and how time, space, language, and theatricality can bring your voice as a writer to life. December 29th - 6pm - 9pm $45, (Free to participants of our 48-Hour Theater Festival in January) THREE-WEEK INTRO TO PLAYWRITING Classes are scheduled on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm and will cover the basic nuts and bolts of playwriting format, storytelling, and structure. Additionally, participants will delve into more advanced techniques through our six lenses of playwriting: time, space, language, theatricality, audience dynamic, and rule-making. This class will equip writers of all experience levels with new tools to build worlds on stage. Nine hours of class time and writing assignments that are designed to give students the tools to embark on future playwriting projects. Saturdays, 10am - 1pm 1/11, 1/25, 2/8 $150 THREE MONTH PLAYWRITING Beginning with our intro to playwriting, this class continues for three additional sessions with a focus on a finished full-length script, a solo work, or an anthology of one-act plays. The course will cover essential topics such as character development, plot structure, dialogue, and the revision process. Participants can expect a blend of theoretical discussions, practical exercises, and constructive critiques aimed at nurturing their unique voice as playwrights. “Beyond storytelling, theater is a type of time travel and world building that can only happen on the stage. Our work is to bring worlds to the stage that can only live on the stage,” says Glenn Hergenhahn-Zhao, Founder and Director of iDiOM Theater.
