One of Toronto’s most popular restaurants has freshly opened its hotly-anticipated first restaurant in Hamilton. Piano Piano has made a name for itself since opening its stunning first restaurant on Harbord Street in Toronto under the stewardship of Chef Victor Barry, himself a decades-long veteran of the culinary industry. The restaurant - which focused on bold, comforting Italian cuisine served in an eclectic and modern setting - has since grown to multiple locations in the Greater Toronto Area; and Hamilton now gets its first taste with the opening of Piano Piano at 62 King Street East, taking over a gorgeous historic building in the heart of Gore Park. For Chef Victor Barry and Piano Piano’s chief operating officer Brendan Piunno, the decision to expand by opening a restaurant in Hamilton felt like a no-brainer. “Victor and Brendan both grew up in the Niagara region, and Hamilton is a big step closer to where it all started,” said Piano Piano in an interview with Urbanicity. “Hamilton felt like the obvious next stop - it’s growing, it’s creative, it’s community-driven. It’s everything we love.” What can Hamilton expect out of Piano Piano? The enticing menu will look familiar if you’ve been to any of their Toronto restaurants: think creative Neapolitan pizzas; fine pastas like egg yolk ravioli or rigatoni carbonara; indulgent mains like eggplant parmesan and chicken piccata; plus shareable bites like donuts & caviar, salmon crudo, and whipped ricotta with homemade focaccia. While the food remains consistent across all Piano Piano restaurants, the thing that will really set Hamilton’s restaurant apart from other locations is the space itself. “We’re taking over a rejuvenated historic building downtown, and at the centre of it all is an incredible atrium that completely transforms the energy of the room,” they explain. “It feels a little more open, a little more magical. Otherwise, Hamiltonians are getting exactly what we do best: bold Italian comfort food, unbeatable value, and a cheeky, over-the-top dining experience. Visitors can expect what the restaurant refers to as “soulfully satisfying” food including dishes like handcrafted pizzas, pastas, Italian mains like Chicken Piccata or Eggplant Parmesan, and snacks like olives or whipped ricotta with focaccia. With multiple Toronto locations that have their own unique atmospheres and visual identities, Piano Piano has been eyeing further expansion beyond the limits of the GTA in recent years, and Hamilton has been added to the list. In fact, rumblings of a Hamilton location have been public since 2023, but it seems the restaurant is finally ready to open its doors this spring at a yet-to-be-disclosed location.
