Shield of Silence
We all have burdens that no one can see, weights we hide beneath the surface. Some of us walk through life feeling like we’re never enough, like we’re waiting for the moment when someone will see our flaws for what they are and finally turn away. And yet, we keep going. We keep hiding our pain, covering it up with distractions, with masks that shield us from the world - but not from ourselves. The truth is, we’re all just trying to survive in a world that feels too heavy sometimes.
I know what it’s like to carry pain and not know how to handle it. To feel like you’re losing control, yet doing everything in your power to hold it together, to protect those around you. You act strong, pretending like everything’s fine, but deep down, there’s a storm raging. We never want to make our loved ones worry, so we bottle it all up, pushing the tears down, holding the cracks together with silent strength. But silence doesn’t heal. And pretending doesn’t fix anything.
It’s exhausting, isn’t it? The weight of trying to be everything for everyone, the pressure to never let them see your flaws. We bury the things we can’t change, thinking that if we just keep pushing, it’ll all go away. But it doesn’t. It lingers, resurfaces when you least expect it, and spills over in ways you can’t control. It comes out in moments of weakness, when you let your guard down, when the walls crack just enough to let the pain bleed through.
We run away from love, from connection, because we’re afraid of what it might reveal. We push people away because we’re scared of what they’ll see beneath the surface. And yet, even with all the things we hide, there’s a part of us that still craves acceptance, still hopes that someone will look past the mask and see us for who we really are. We want someone to be proud of us, to know that despite the mess, despite all the broken parts, we’re still trying.
But what happens when we realize we can’t fix everything? What do we do when we feel like we’re too far gone, too broken to be saved? The truth is, no one can fix us but ourselves. We can’t expect someone else to carry the weight we refuse to face. The healing starts with us - by looking at the parts of ourselves we’ve hidden, the parts we’ve buried too deep to touch. It’s about taking off the mask and letting the light in, even if it hurts. It’s about letting go of the things we can’t change and learning to love ourselves anyway.
So, if you’re reading this, know that it’s okay to not have it all figured out. It’s okay to be broken. It’s okay to feel like you’re not enough sometimes. But don’t forget that you are worthy of love, even in your darkest moments. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about showing up for yourself, even when you don’t have the strength. It’s about understanding that healing takes time, and it’s okay to not have all the answers.
And if you ever feel like you’ve hit a breaking point, just remember: you don’t have to carry the weight alone. You don’t have to have it all together. You’re still worthy, even when you’re broken.
