Pictured: Claudette Robinson. Often celebrated as the “First Lady of Motown,” Claudette was a founding member of The Miracles, the first group signed to Berry Gordy’s Tamla label, which later became Motown Records. Alongside Smokey Robinson, Claudette helped deliver some of Motown’s earliest hits, including “Shop Around,” “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me,” and “The Tracks of My Tears.” Beyond her voice, her presence symbolized the beginning of Motown’s legacy, paving the way for other women at the label and cementing her place as a pioneer in the history of American soul and R&B music.
