Bright provincial

I quit shooting film in 2004. That was the year that digital technology got as good or better than film. Since then all my photography has been digital. The well dressed film photographer needed to carry a whole pocket full of filters. Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Polarizing, UV and many more colors were the norm. Now with the Power of Adobe, I carry only four filters: Polarizing, UV, Split Neutral Density and a ten stop neutral density. This photo was taken at Lake Superior Provincial Park at Agaway Bay in 2000. I saw a fisherman standing on the shore on a cloudy, rainy overcast day and knew it would be a terrible image without a filter. Shooting with Fujichrome Velvia I tried a red filter on my 500mm mirror lens. It looked like a post nuclear disaster. I tried a yellow filter. It looked too bright and cheerful. Then like Goldilocks and the tree bears, the orange filter was "Just Right". It turned the gray skies and the water orange for an image that looked nothing at all like the reality of the day. Then I walked up to him, got his name and number and mailed some of the slides to him. If you do shoot photos of strangers, try to get them copies of your work. Chances are they will appreciate it. Digital images can be emailed easily. Nikon F camera body, Nikon 500mm mirror lens at f/8, Fujichrome slide film ISO 50, 1/2 sec. #midwestphotographyworkshops #denisonbrycegmail.com # www.midwest.photography
