repeal
Mass Retirees quest to repeal the Social Security WEP & GPO laws began nearly 42-years ago, just weeks after the Social Security Reform Act of 1983 was signed into law. In the spirit of throwback Thursday, we'd like to share the front page of the May 1983 edition of our newsletter "The Voice", where we state that the new law would have a "greatest negative effect" on public retirees. The article, which was one of the first of its kind in the country, was written by Association General Counsel Bill Rehrey. Little did Bill or anyone else at the time know that nearly 42 years would pass before this extremely unfair and destructive law would be repealed.
For those retirees now impacted by WEP/GPO, we ask for your patience while Social Security works to revise benefits for the nearly 3 million retirees now harmed by WEP/GPO. Once further information is available, we will notify Association members.
