Over the last few weeks, I’ve heard some unfortunate and misleading things said about my family and my last name. I want to take a moment to share the truth with you directly—because you deserve nothing less. I was born Jason Hensley and raised by a single mother until the 3rd grade. She worked hard, sacrificed daily, and did her very best to give me every opportunity she could. When I was still a young boy, she met a good man—Albert “Al” Lynch—who became an important part of our lives. In the 8th grade, I took his last name, and a couple of years later, Al formally adopted me. That adoption was one of the most beautiful blessings in my life. It gave me the stability of two loving parents under one roof, something I believe every child deserves if possible. It didn’t erase my mother’s sacrifices—it honored them by giving me the gift of a complete family. Some have tried to twist this story into something ugly because of my last name and my relation to County Councilman Manning Lynch. The truth is, I grew up in Lancaster, South Carolina—entirely apart from Manning—and didn’t meet him until I was 21 years old. I respect him as an older member of my extended family, but my candidacy is my own—and my ideas, my values, and my vision belong to me alone. Family is complicated. Names don’t define who we are—our choices do. I’m proud of my journey from Jason Hensley to Jason Lynch, and I’m saddened that anyone would politicize something as personal and as beautiful as adoption. I’m running for County Council to serve you, the people of Spartanburg County—not a name, not a title, and certainly not someone else’s agenda. My focus will always be on delivering results that make our community stronger, safer, and more prosperous. Thank you for letting me share my story with you.
