Natural interim
A fitting sermon for MLK Day tomorrow. From January 19, 2025, “In Search of the Beloved Community”:

Our text, the opening verses of Isaiah, chapter 11, is one of the classic “hope texts” of the Bible. In a few lines, it paints for us a picture of God’s Peaceable Kingdom, a place and a time in which natural adversaries would somehow be brought together in community. In extension, this passage challenges us to practice hope. Like faith and love, hope must be exercised to have any reality, any staying power. We must dare to do things that move us together in the direction of Isaiah’s vision of the Peaceable Kingdom and MLK’s vision of the Beloved Community.
