Afro-American
Happy New Year!
I’m thrilled to finally make my brand official – and yes, it’s literally part of my name! You definitely need to hear the story behind why I chose it.
About five years ago, I came across the term "Gibson Girls" while watching *Self Made* on Netflix, a film about Madam C.J. Walker, an Afro-American woman who built a beauty empire. I was instantly intrigued by the Gibson Girls and wanted to understand why they were so significant to beauty history.
The Gibson Girl originated in 1891 as a personification created by artist Charles Gibson. She became the embodiment of the ideal woman for the late 19th century – elegant, confident, well-educated, independent, and unapologetically challenging gender norms. She was a symbol of beauty and strength, unbothered by politics.
I find the Gibson Girl’s legacy truly inspiring, and I deeply resonate with her spirit. My hope is to empower and inspire other women, making them feel as beautiful and confident as only a Gibson Gurl can.
