Eucharist
Greetings. Happy Feast.
Today we celebrate something that we do every Sunday, that is the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This is something we celebrate every time we get together at Mass, but today we remember our Lord's everlasting gift to us in a special way.
The Catholic Church has held that every time we celebrate the Eucharist, we believe that the bread and wind becomes the actual Body and Blood of Christ. In some other Christian traditions. the bread and wine are seen as symbolic of the Body and Blood of Christ. But I do not what this to become a theological debate.
Down through the ages, saints have held to the belief that Christ is actually present on our altars and in our tabernacles. One such saint, St. Theresa of Lisieux gives us this thought today. "He does not come down from Heaven each day to stay in the golden chalice. He comes down to find another Heaven of our souls, made in His image being temples of the Most Blessed Trinity."
Our minds sometimes are not able to take this all in. We, in our finite reality, fail to comprehend such a gift, such a reality that the Son of God would be present to us under the simple forms of bread and wine.
We need to keep in mind the words of Jesus who told us, "Where two or more are gathered together in My name, I am in the midst of them."
