Simple qualifying
Heating with electric resistance in New Hampshire? Enhanced rebates now available for New Hampshire residents who heat primarily with a working, permanent electric resistance heat and are installing qualified heat pumps may be eligible for up to $1,000 per ton in addition to the standard $250 per ton rebate through NH Saves program (while funds last). Pre-verification is required. Resident must be an electric customer of Eversource, Liberty, New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, or Unitil and use permanent electric resistance heat as their primary heating source to qualify. Certain equipment such as a space heater or electric fireplace will not qualify for the enhanced incentive.
Why is the NH Saves enhancing the rebate? Electric baseboard heating is typically a very expensive way to heat an entire home. So, why would anyone opt for this kind of heating system? Back in the 1970s and 80s, electric baseboard heating was an inexpensive and practical alternative for home builders. Electricity did not have the same hefty price tag it does today, so it made sense. But the times have changed. Cost of operation is one of the complications of electric heat. Another complication is cost of conversion. If ducts do not exist in the property already then in order to switch to a forced air system walls need to be opened back up and duct work installed for an owner to switch from the electric heat to a forced air system. It’s a big and intrusive project.
Converting from electric resistance baseboard to electric ductless mini split heat pumps, provides a high-efficiency zoned solution to space heating and cooling—at a fraction of the cost and complication of converting to fossil-fuel powered forced air systems. In addition to the enhanced rebates, qualifying systems are eligible for federal tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act. Count on our experienced HVAC and home electrification experts to make the process simple, while maximizing available incentives and financing options.
