🚩What NOT To Look For In A Coach or Trainer...🚩
Have you ever been to a gym where you’re supposed to do your own warm up?
😰Or, maybe the warm up is written on the board, but everyone does it at their own pace leaving the “slower” athletes feeling behind?
🤳Or, the coach is constantly on their phone, or only focused on their friends and the “real athletes” in class?
👨⚖️Or maybe they’re just constantly telling you what you’re doing wrong?
📣Or, worse, they just cheer you on but don’t actually pay any attention to your form?
⏰Is your coach chronically late to class? Or lets class run past it’s scheduled end time?
📚Do they just list off things to do as if they’re reciting a powerpoint slide thus putting everyone to sleep!
These are all HUGE red flags.
If your coach is doing any of these, you should fire them immediately.
✅A good coach is there to guide you, and instruct you. Not just write down a lesson and expect you to figure it out on your own. Imagine if that’s how your 1st grade teacher taught you how to read...
✅A good coach gives their attention to YOU, the athlete, regardless of your skill level. Coaches should be agile enough to simultaneously coach someone brand new to fitness yet also still improved the most advanced athletes.
✅A good coach is there to give real time, honest feedback both positive and negative. They don’t tell you what you’re doing wrong, but instead they tell you how to improve. (i.e. “don’t sag your shoulders” vs. “keep your shoulders active”)
✅A good coach is 15 minutes early and stays 15 minutes after to interact with their athletes, talk about concerns before class, and recap the highlights afterwards.
✅A good coach also respects your busy schedule by being prompt in their start & end times!
✅Lastly, a good coach provides an experience. There’s no denying that fitness can be hard sometimes, but a good coach can turn that challenge into a life-changing experience!
Avoid the red flags, find a good coach, & get the results you deserve!
