The painting depicting Abraham visited by the Three Angels from the Mdina Cathedral has just been conserved and restored by RECOOP. This late seventeenth or early eighteenth century Italian school was in a poor state of conservation with issues ranging from varnish oxidation, flaking of the paint layer and number of splits running across the canvas. These splits were caused by the weakening of the original and lining canvas as a result of an insect infestation, thus jeopardising the structural integrity of the painting which buckled under its own weight. The painting was meticulously conserved and restored allowing for its readability to be once again reestablished.
