Jesus told the story of the good Samaritan to show love and kindness are the bedrock of His teachings. He explained how religious people like the Priest failed in simple acts of kindness. They held their religious obligations dearer than a basic act of humanity towards a man in dire need, possibly a fellow Jew. Where the highly esteemed Priest failed, the Samaritan, held in contempt by Jesus' Jewish audience displayed kindness. Our faith, devotion, sacrifices and religion can only be expressed by love. And our love to God can only be expressed towards His children, our fellow humans. As John reasoned, "...for he that does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?" 1 John 4 vs 20

Living as Children of Light. With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against Him. They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity. But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from Him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, He has identified you as His own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Sămânţa germi­nează şi apariţia primelor frunzuliţe este un motiv de satisfacţie pentru grădinar. Se naşte un copil şi primul lui strigăt anunţă începutul unei noi vieţi pe pământ. Mama uită durerea prin care a trecut şi îşi cheamă familia ca să se bucure şi să sărbătorească împreună. O naţiune îşi câştigă libertatea şi toată populaţia se adună pe străzi şi în pieţe, manifestându-şi bucuria pentru noul început. Dar ce s-ar întâmpla dacă primele frunzuliţe nu ar mai creşte şi dacă lângă ele nu ar mai apărea alte frunze; dacă după un an, bebeluşul nu ar putea zâmbi şi nu ar putea merge singur, ci ar rămâne la fel ca în ziua în care a apărut pe lume; dacă naţiunea eliberată ar reveni după o perioadă la starea de teamă, chin şi opresiune de mai înainte? Bucuria grădinarului, extazul mamei şi promisiunea unui viitor liber se transformă în dezamăgire, mâhnire şi amărăciune. Creşterea continuă, constantă, până la maturizare şi aducerea de roade este esenţială în viaţă. Fără ea, naşterea nu ar avea niciun sens, niciun scop sau destin. Dezvoltarea este indispensabilă vieţii, atât din punct de vedere fizic, cât şi din punct de vedere spiritual. Pentru dezvoltarea fizică este nevoie de hrană adecvată, de un mediu propice, de îngrijire şi mişcare, de educaţie şi disciplină şi de un sens în viaţă. Aici însă ne referim doar la dezvoltarea spirituală. Cum putem să creştem în Hristos şi să devenim creştini maturi? Care sunt indicatorii creşterii spirituale? Va urma!
