Safe misunderstand
Every day I talk to professional men that are feeling trapped, overwhelmed and burnt out at work.
When all they want is to provide for their families and feel like they're doing their best and achieving their potential.
They try their very best to stay on top of work, but it feels like there's just too much to do, too many people to please, and not enough hours in the day to get it all done.
They've tried all the usual stuff to get on top of their INSANE to do list:
✅ Working harder
✅ Working longer
✅ Waking up earlier
✅ Sleeping more
✅ Sleeping less
✅ Exercising daily
✅ Changing their diet
✅ Giving up drinking
✅ Meditating
✅ Fixing their mindset
✅ Being more disciplined
✅ Being more organised
✅ Chunking their tasks
✅ Managing their time
✅ Hiring more people
✅ Delegating
✅ Saying no
✅ Setting boundaries
✅ Going for counselling

But nothing seems to solve the problem. Sure, it works for a few days. But it's unsustainable so they relapse and go back to their old habits. And they end up feeling more fed up and burned out than when they started!
The reason these solutions don't work is that people misunderstand the real reason they're feeling like crap and struggling to perform.
See, the problem isn't how much work they have to do. It isn't a lack of time or energy. And it's isn't because they're being pulled in too many directions.
The real problem is that they're letting work CONTROL HOW THEY FEEL.
I'll give you a moment to let that sink in... I'm saying WORK ISN'T THE REAL PROBLEM.
It's the power than work has to MAKE YOU FEEL stressed, anxious, overwhelmed and worthless when it all goes wrong.
If you feel good when things are going good and bad when things are going bad -- you're not in control of how you feel -- work is!
That's why you can't stop thinking about it. That's why you can't switch off. That's why you can't be present with your kids. Because work has too much power over you. And that lack of control is what's burning you out.
Unless you solve this deeper problem you will never have enough time, energy or willpower to break your addiction to work and no time management, productivity or mindset hack will make the slightest bit of difference.
You see, when you're emotionally attached to work, the part of your brain that keeps you safe from harm will become activated. And it'll force you to obsess about work until the threat has passed.
The problem is that there's no end to the number of threats at work, so you'll be stuck in this anxious state of mind forever. You'll be an overthinking, overreacting, stressed out mess and there's nothing you can do to stop it.
But when you're emotionally detached from work, you activate a different part of your brain. One that feels safe. One that feels calm. One that feels in control. And this part of your brain has no problem switching off, being present and enjoying your life.
I want you to know it's not your fault that you've struggled to fix this problem. You haven't failed. You've just misunderstood what's really causing it.
When you learn how to stop work from controlling how you feel, you're going to unlock huge levels of energy, focus and enjoyment. And you won't have to lower your standards, cut back on your goals, or walk away from your career.
