This workshop offers a detailed study of Athanasius’ major works as primary texts in the interest of gaining an understanding of Athanasius’ Trinitarian theology, his Christology as evidenced in his “On the Incarnation,” as well as his writings against the Arians. The course will also engage his pastoral concerns through writings such as, “The Life of Anthony” which will help, along with his other writings, in assessing Athanasius’ continuing relevance for the church today as a pastor and theologian. There will be lectures as well robust class discussion. Students will be responsible for reading some of the texts ahead of time in preparation for class discussion.
Participants should read “On the Incarnation” and “The Life of Anthony” by Athanasius, as well as the following:
