SITKA, ALASKA - PRISTINE - MAGICAL - PARADISE - HOME OF THE ALPINE ADVENTURE RUN JULY 19, 2025 - Imagine being on this amazing course running the Alpine Adventure Run - 7 Mile Mountain Run. The trail is seven miles long starting at St. Gregory's Catholic Church parking lot, heading up Baranof Street, going up Gavan Hill, around the Harbor Mountain Ridge Trail and ending up at the Harbor Mountain picnic area. The first quarter mile of the run starts at sea level. The course then enters the broad Gavan Hill Trail 0.81 miles to the Cross Trail, turns right for 0.28 miles, then left up the narrow trail to the Gavan Hill ridge with an elevation gain of over 2,500 feet. The trail continues the next 4 miles to climb over hills and valleys opening into spectacular alpine vistas traversing rock slides and stunted growth forests. The last half mile of the course continues a gradual decent down Harbor Mountain Road. Sitka Mountain Rescue team volunteers provide coverage. Official timing will stop at 2.5 hours from starting time. Runner must be at least 15 years of age to run. The Alpine Adventure Run is a Limited Entry Run and is conducted under a Special Use Permit with the Tongass National Forest. Limited Entry for July 19, 2025 will be 125 Runners.
