FICTION: Water rate increases are a unnecessary burden and represent wasteful spending. FACT: The real burden is unsafe and unreliable utilities. Years of neglect have left our water and sewer systems failing, which forces costly emergency repairs. Investing in Safe, Reliable Water: Water-rate adjustments will fund critical infrastructure improvements, including removing lead service lines. This will ensure safe drinking water and prevent expensive emergency failures. Breaking the Cycle of Poor Planning: Years ago, the Village paid for a water rate study but then ignored it. If they had acted on the findings, rate increases could have been gradual. Instead, they chose to delay action. We refuse to make the same mistake. A Mandate for Safety: The Environmental Protection Agency has mandated that all lead supply lines be replaced by 2040. By implementing this rate increase, the Village of Westchester will replace these lines, saving residents thousands of dollars in costs. A Smarter Approach for the Future: We are conducting a professional water and sewer rate study and collaborating with funding and loan specialists to create a fair and sustainable plan. This will help prevent future financial shocks and ensure long-term stability. We are also seeking a Finance Director to strengthen long-term forecasting and shift from a reactive approach to a proactive one. Restricted Funds, Not Wasteful Spending: By law, water and sewer funds can only be used for water and sewer expenses. These funds are not discretionary; they are allocated directly to infrastructure repairs, system upgrades, and mandated safety improvements. What’s actually wasteful? Delaying necessary upgrades, ignoring expert recommendations, and leaving residents with failing infrastructure and rising repair costs. We are making responsible, forward-thinking investments to protect Westchester’s future. Delaying these essential investments only exacerbates the problem and increases costs in the long run. These issues will not disappear by ignoring them—we've learned this lesson already. Why repeat the same mistake? Let’s keep moving forward.

Things you don’t want to discover on a routine check: a void. Especially one that is six metres long. But that’s exactly we what did find this morning around a water main near the Red Lion. Given the sheer scale of the void - almost the same length as the shark in Jaws - we need to get in and get it fixed. Fast. The leak was sorted this morning by removing the old clamp and installing a more-heavy duty one, that covers a bigger proportion of the pipe and will prevent this from happening again (which you can see in the picture). Now, it’s the void to fill. To get that done, from 9.30am tomorrow, traffic lights will be installed and will remain until at least the middle of next week. And given that it’s on an arterial route into town, it’s going to cause disruption. We’ll do whatever we can to speed up the process, but for now, all we advise is to give extra time for your journey and use alternative routes where possible. We will keep you updated. افتتاح خزان مياه الكدهي في محافظة إب بسعة 1000 متر مكعب افتتحت السلطات المحلية اليوم خزان مياه الكدهي بمديرية الظهار في محافظة إب، بسعة 1000 متر مكعب، مع خط اسالة، وشبكة توزيع بطول ثلاثة آلاف و500 متر. لقد حظي هذا المشروع باهتمام كبير من قبل السلطة المحلية، وتصدر أولوياتها للحد من أزمة المياه، في إب التي تعد ثالث محافظة في اليمن من حيث عدد السكان، والثالثة من حيث الاحتياج لخدمات المياه، والتي تفاقمت بسبب النمو السكاني السريع، واحتضانها لعشرات الآلاف من النازحين من محافظات أخرى بسبب الحرب. وبفضل الدعم السخي من الإتحاد الأوروبي لمشروع تعزيز المرونة المؤسسية والاقتصادية في اليمن (#SIERY) الذي ينفذه برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي من خلال مؤسسة تمدين شباب (TYF) ستتمكن المؤسسة المحلية من ضخ المياه من الآبار الجوفية إلى الخزان التجميعي، وتوفير مياه الشرب النظيفة لأكثر من 32,500 نسمة. مدير عام مديرية الظهار الدكتور فضل زيد، اعتبر هذا المشروع خطوة مهمة نحو معالجة أزمة المياه التي تعاني منها المنطقة، وأكد بأن دخول هذا الخزان للخدمة وبدء ضح المياه للمناطق المستفيدة، يعزز من قدرة السلطات المحلية على تلبية احتياجات سكان المديرية من مياه الشرب النقية. حضر الافتتاح المدير الفني للمؤسسة المحلية للمياه والصرف الصحي المهندس عبد الرحمن الجبوبي، وأمين عام المجلس المحلي بالمديرية عبدالله الخولاني. #مياه #تنمية_محلية #إب #اليمن Inauguration of Al-Kadahi Water Tank in Ibb Governorate with a Capacity of 1,000 Cubic Meters The local authorities today inaugurated the Al-Kadahi water tank in Al-Zaher District, Ibb Governorate, with a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters, along with a water pipeline and a distribution network extending 3,500 meters. This project has received significant attention from the local authority and was prioritized to address the water crisis in Ibb, which is the third-largest governorate in Yemen in terms of population and water service needs. The crisis has worsened due to rapid population growth and the influx of tens of thousands of internally displaced persons from other governorates due to the war. Thanks to the generous support of the European Union for the "Strengthening Institutional and Economic Resilience in Yemen" (#SIERY) project, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through Tamdeen Youth Foundation (#TYF), the local water utility will now be able to pump groundwater to the storage tank and provide clean drinking water to more than 32,500 people. Dr. Fadhl Zaid, Director-General of Al-Zaher District, considered this project a significant step towards addressing the water crisis in the region. He confirmed that the operation of this tank and the commencement of water pumping to beneficiary areas enhance the local authorities’ ability to meet the drinking water needs of the district’s residents.
