Today, we presented our first annual district report to our citizens, detailing our activities on Capitol Hill and our short-term accomplishments in the district. We outlined our three-year agenda and provided a comprehensive overview of all financial expenditures made by companies in our district, as well as projects funded by the government through LACE and those fully funded by our office during our first year. I would like to express my gratitude to the district development councils, the Christian and Muslim communities, and all the citizens of District #8. 144 AÑOS DE LA BATALLA DE SAN JUAN Y CHORRILLOS 13 DE ENERO 2025. Cada 13 de enero, nuestra comunidad se reúne en el histórico Morro Solar, junto al imponente monumento al Soldado Heroico de la Guerra del Pacífico, para rendir homenaje a los héroes que sacrificaron sus vidas en defensa de nuestra patria. Esta tradición, que en otros tiempos era un acto solemne y lleno de fervor patriótico, se fue desvaneciendo con los años, cayendo casi en el olvido. Pero hoy, con renovado espíritu, nuestra comunidad se alza nuevamente, unida por el recuerdo de aquellos valientes que no dudaron en dar todo por su tierra y por su gente. El Morro Solar, testigo silencioso de la valentía y el sacrificio, no es solo un lugar histórico; es un campo santo, un espacio sagrado donde la sangre de nuestros compatriotas regó el suelo para dejarnos un legado imborrable de libertad y dignidad. Al rendir tributo a esos defensores, no solo recordamos su gesta heroica, sino que también reafirmamos nuestro compromiso de proteger este lugar y todo lo que representa. Sin embargo, el verdadero desafío no siempre viene de afuera. Hoy, los enemigos que amenazan este legado no son ejércitos invasores, sino muchas veces nuestras propias acciones, nuestra indiferencia y nuestro descuido. Por eso, este acto no es solo una ceremonia, es un llamado. Un llamado a proteger nuestra historia, a valorar nuestras raíces y a defender la memoria de aquellos que nos dieron un futuro. Que cada paso en el Morro Solar nos recuerde el eco de los cañones, el clamor de los combatientes y la inmensa responsabilidad que tenemos de ser dignos herederos de su sacrificio. Paying my final respects to President Jimmy Carter tonight, lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda. We filed past the casket, with a service member from each branch forming the honor guard. It was solemn and beautiful. We signed the condolence book and received the condolence cards, fearured here. Someone pointed out that Caleb and me were in the livestream on ABC News, and you could see us in the bottom right corner of the screen. This was an incredibly moving experience and I was proud to see our 39th president near the end of his journey before burial.

It was 128 years ago when José Rizal gave his life fighting for the Philippines’ independence. His sacrifices and inspiring works continue to serve as a beacon for leaders and citizens, reminding us of the importance of serving with integrity and purpose. Let us honor his legacy by doing something meaningful for our community and our country—serving not for personal gain, but for the collective good. True leadership is about putting others first, making a difference, and leading with a genuine heart for service.
