UM FÔLEGO INQUIETO (A RESTLESS BREATH), a poem by Sonja N. Bohm. Pictured is a young pepper plant—a Jalapeño Murcielago F2 (cross between a Jalapeño M and a Count Dracula). Original cross by, and seeds courtesy of a friend. The poem in English— With a restless breath, I release my sorrows onto each new leaf— each new sprout. They receive my doubts and paint me something beautiful. This poem was written for the Pera e Pedra (Pear and Stone) collection of bilingual poems inspired by Portugal. They are conceived in English and crafted to be read in Portuguese. Yet the versions are not strict translations of one another. The writing process begins with the conception of the poems in English, as I develop the essence, ideas, and emotions to be expressed. Using every tool at my disposal—dictionaries, translators, what I have learned in Portuguese language class—the English and Portuguese versions are crafted together simultaneously, line by line, back and forth through trial and error, in a dance of words that intertwine like two distinct bodies searching for harmony with one another, each influencing the other's content, movement and rhythm. From 2000 through 2008 he edited letterpress editions of Irish poetry from Paulette Myers-Rich's Traffic Street Press in St. Paul. Kent Aldrich was born in 1964 and has lived most of his life in the Twin Cities area. Although he attended school at Minneapolis College of Art and Design, his real passion for the arts was ignited while working on a solid oak lever press at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and as production manager at Coffee House Press, then in residence at Minnesota Center for Book Arts. For 24 years he has run his letterpress print shop, The Nomadic Press from the West Side in St. Paul. Though primarily a relief printmaker, Kent regularly creates artistic constructions in many mediums. Leslie Adrienne Miller’s collections of poems include Y, The Resurrection Trade, and Eat Quite Everything You See from Graywolf Press, Yesterday Had a Man In It, Ungodliness, and Staying Up For Love from Carnegie Mellon University Press. Professor Emerita at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, Leslie holds degrees from Stephens College, the University of Missouri, the Iowa Writers Workshop, and the University of Houston. Lon Otto’s previously published books include the novel The Flower Trade (Brighthorse Books); the story collections A Nest of Hooks (U. of Iowa Press), Cover Me (Coffee House Press), and A Man in Trouble (Brighthorse Books) ; and the letterpress chapbook Water Bodies (Coffee House).

Massimo Pasqualone e l’intera giuria. A tutti, in attesa della premiazione, auguro Buone Feste. Dopo “Il Mondo Perduto” che si è classificato secondo, anche il mio epistolare romanzo storico di formazione viene premiato raggiungendo la stessa posizione; come il 2024, pure il 2025 comincia ostentando una mia assai significativa conquista non solo letteraria. Sfidando sia le intemperie invernali che innanzitutto il mio asperger non invece scientificamente esposto dal “Le Ombre della Luce”, il 18 gennaio 2025, cercherò di essere ancora fisicamente presente nel teatino Museo Barbella. Sia la città di Chieti che l’APS Luca Romano, contribuirà comunque a promuovere questa mia voluminosa opera altresì artistica; l’asperger Francesco Leopardi attraversa anche territori estesissimi, immerso nell’orrore della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Tramite i comportamenti autistici di questo protagonista, si apprendono tuttavia molte nozioni concernenti la sindrome di Asperger. J’ai connu cet état ce brasier dévorant Pauvre cœur mis à nu dans l’heure de l’absence, Te sachant à côté, mais déjà t’éloignant De ce feu qui fut nous, brûlant l’aube en naissance !
