A significant winter storm is impacting Indiana today, bringing widespread snow and hazardous travel conditions. Northern Indiana will see snow begin mid-morning, with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches expected by the evening commute. Lake-effect snow will persist tonight into Saturday morning, creating additional localized accumulations. Winds gusting up to 20 mph may lead to blowing and drifting snow, further reducing visibility. Bitterly cold Arctic air arrives early next week, with subzero wind chills and chances for additional snow. In Central Indiana, steady snow will develop later this morning, continuing through late evening. Snowfall totals of 3 to 4 inches are anticipated, with heavier bursts likely during the afternoon and early evening. Roads will quickly become slick, and reduced visibility will make travel hazardous. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight, and a reinforcing Arctic front early next week will maintain frigid temperatures and wind chills below zero. Southern Indiana is under a Winter Storm Warning until early Saturday morning, with 3 to 6 inches of snow expected. Far southern areas near Kentucky may see locally higher amounts. With lingering ice from last weekend’s storm, additional snow could lead to downed branches and power outages. Travel will be extremely dangerous, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Another cold night ‼️ A Frost Advisory is in effect for Volusia County midnight tonight until 8 AM EST Friday. Temperatures will drop to the mid to upper 30s, Residents should protect pets and delicate plants by covering shrubs ensuring pets have a warm, safe shelter.
