Join us for a walking tour of Grandview Crossing — a bold, mixed-use development that’s transforming a former landfill into a thriving neighborhood. This tour highlights how thoughtful zoning is shaping more sustainable, transit-friendly communities across Columbus.

We will get the whiteboard out and start thinking and document what the community of Woden would like to see for the town centre. This will form the basis of our submission to the Assembly which is due on 22 August. There will be tea and coffee and some cake from the market to aid the discussion. Instead of an unpopular high-rise hotel that would require dramatic changes to the boardwalk zoning and embroil the city in costly litigation, we’re offering a community-centered compromise that preserves our boardwalk’s character and puts Ocean City residents first. Why are we proposing this? Because Mr. Mita owns the land — but he doesn’t own the zoning. He can build anything the current zoning allows: retail, amusements, arcades. Not a high-rise hotel. Zoning exists to protect Ocean City’s residents, which is why the OC Chamber of Commerce conditioned their support on community engagement and consensus. This is our attempt to engage and start to find a path forward that works for everyone. Let’s get this right — and build what’s right for Ocean City. A high-rise isn’t it. As part of the official visit of a Mouvement des Entreprises de France (MEDEF) delegation to Mauritius, Gilbert Espitalier-Noël, Group CEO of ENL Group, was invited to speak on a panel at the Forum d’Affaires France-Maurice « Un Héritage partagé, un Avenir prospère » held last Friday. He shared ENL’s approach to territorial development and urban resilience through the Moka Smart City master plan. Discussions between Mauritian and French business leaders focused on key strategic themes, including the blue economy, regional value chains, sustainable development, innovation, technology, and digital transformation. During the panel themed “Sustainable Development: Shared Challenges and Common Solutions for the Region,” Gilbert highlighted the Group’s experience through Moka Smart City, a model built on compact, mixed-use urban development, resilient infrastructure, and inclusive planning. He emphasised the importance of: • Long-term territorial planning supported by strong public-private collaboration • Inclusive urban integration, connecting Moka with surrounding villages through shared infrastructure and open public spaces • Delivering a holistic “Live, Work, Play” approach • Current and upcoming initiatives focused on preserving green spaces, powering common areas through solar energy, and promoting soft mobility with electric bikes His intervention reinforced ENL’s commitment to building future-fit urban environments that meet both global sustainability goals and the specific needs of the Mauritian context. #ENLgroup #EnablingPossibilities

We need to find a new path forward, whereby placemaking is viewed as a health generating system; a catalyst for our psychological, physiological and biological health. Viewing placemaking role in health creation, through an asset based lens - encouraging good things to happen - versus a deficit based lens - focused primarily on limiting bad events from occurring. Placemaking as physical, mental and emotional fitness. Through researching and producing my book Constructing Health: How the Built Environment Enhances our Mind’s Health, it was astonishing to see the tremendous number of fields of study, depth of scholarly research, and overwhelming evidence of how intentionally designed environments, can be a nutrients for physical, societal, ecological, and importantly mind health - though a sense of coherence - reinforced by comprehensibility, manageability, and of note - meaningfulness.
