GLOBALGIVING PER MEDACROSS
www.globalgiving.org
www.globalgiving.org/projects/maternity-care-for-women-in-rural-myanmar/
In remote villages in Myanmar, thousands of women face childbirth without access to essential healthcare, resulting in high rates of maternal and infant mortality. MEDACROSS mobile clinics bring midwives and maternity care directly to these disadvantaged communities, providing life-saving antenatal screenings, assisted births and postnatal support to mothers and newborns.
Imagine being a mother in a remote village, hours away from the nearest hospital, and going through a pregnancy without access to adequate healthcare. Maternal and infant mortality rates in Myanmar are among the highest in the world, particularly in rural regions. Political instability has made the situation worse. Women in these regions lack prenatal checkups, increasing their risk of complications.
MEDACROSS works in the field to fill this gap by offering free, life-saving maternity services. “Our mobile clinics go to rural villages,” explains President Daniele Regge, “bringing midwives and health workers to the women who need them most.”
Through consistent maternity care in rural Myanmar, this project aims to significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, creating healthier and more resilient communities. By providing women with access to quality healthcare, prenatal education and family planning, we are promoting a better future for Myanmar mothers and newborns.
MedAcross has been active in Myanmar for 7 years. It is an extremely difficult country also due to political instability. In Kawthaung, a health center was initially activated, followed by the entry into service of mobile clinics that cross the rural areas of the country, reaching the most remote villages. In addition to the mobile clinics, MedAcross has also created a boat clinic that allows doctors to reach fishing villages on the islands of the Andaman archipelago.
