Learn how this historically rich mining region is now at the center of an unexpected collaboration, where gold miners are working to restore vital salmon habitat. Our featured speakers bring a wealth of experience and local knowledge: ⛏️ Howard Carbone, a longtime Talkeetna local and Susitna River Coalition board member, has spent 30 years immersed in the region’s wilderness. His latest adventure blends treasure hunting with conservation, showing how history and habitat restoration can go hand in hand. 🌊 Corinne Marzullo, a Watershed Restoration Engineer with 20 years of experience, specializes in restoring waterways impacted by mining. Her work focuses on geomorphological and hydraulic studies, stream simulation, and habitat improvement, ensuring that once-extracted landscapes regain their ecological balance. Join us at Idlewild Park for a day of sustainability, learning, and fun. Explore topics like recycling, energy conservation, and eco-friendly living through local non-profits and educational groups. While you’re here, enjoy live performances by local musicians, shop at the Great American Craft Fair, and sip on locally sourced beer. Don’t forget to bring your flask and reusable shopping tote! Water fill stations will be available throughout the park. What’s New for 2025? This year, we’re making big strides in sustainability: Expanded waste collection with volunteer-manned recycling and trash separation stations. Enhanced volunteer training to support event operations and eco-friendly practices. Data collection on waste to measure and improve sustainability efforts. An increased focus on education with interactive displays and activities. A sustainability raffle to reward eco-friendly participation. Restrictions on non-sustainable to-go materials for food vendors. Vendors are prohibited from distributing single-use bags, bottles, or cups. All beverages will be served in reusable commemorative cups. Reusable bag giveaways for attendees. Limits on non-sustainable handout items. Want to Get Involved?
