THE SAD REALITY 💔 On Tuesday, Ranger was surrendered to a rural pound. We received a call shortly after with an ultimatum, we either come and get him straight away, or he would be euthanised that afternoon. They had no room, and couldn't hold any more dogs; as a surrendered dog with no one coming to claim him, Ranger was first on the list to 'free up space'. Our volunteer rushed to save Ranger, he spent 3 days living in a vet clinic until we could bring him down to Melbourne on the North West Pound run yesterday. Ranger was not the only dog surrendered to the pound that day, or the days after. But he did make it out alive, he was one of the lucky ones. This is the sad reality of pounds and shelters in Australia right now... Many dogs are not making it out alive. Surrendered dogs that won't be missed, are the first ones to be euthanised. We as a society need to do better, if you think that dropping off your dog at a pound because you have no time for them, because you think someone can give them a better life, because your circumstances have changed... Understand that it is more likely than not they won't get any more time, they won't have a better life, they will have nothing at all... We know this is confronting, but it is the truth. The reality that we all need to wake up to, innocent, healthy, adoptable animals are being euthanised every single day. Our animals are not disposable, they are for life... We are sick and tired of seeing loyal pets surrendered as they are no longer convenient. R.I.P to all the dogs who were euthanised this week, our hearts are broken that their lives were cut short as they were an inconvenience. We can't save them all, but we could save this one dog, Ranger; now with a loving foster family, if only he knew just how close he came to not being here.

Amazing Ari is available for adoption applications from veterans, first responders, active military, Gold Star families, and anyone who had a past or present family member serve in the military. Evaluated by our trainer, Ari is described as "the sweetest soul" and it's true, he will be a gift to his lucky adopter(s). He's a big boy at 96 pounds and when he stands up he can look you in the eyes if you're 5 foot 7! And when he does, he'll melt your heart. Ari is an inspiration. Born into a hostile and dangerous world, he was protected by an American hero deployed overseas who knew the gentle pup deserved the chance to have a good life. Ari made it to safety through our War-Torn Pups and Cats program, and he's ready for his Happy Ever After. Ari is an Albanian Shepherd Mix (neutered) - around a year old, who gets along with all other dogs and would be happy in a home with a playmate. He's great with kids and currently lives with an 8 year old child and a baby, but due to his large size it is preferable if children in the home are older than 10 years, but it isn't necessarily a dealbreaker for the right family. An active home will be perfect for him - somewhere he can go on long walks, play ball, and have lots of exercise. He's still young so has puppy behaviors and has started training while he's with us; he'll need someone with the time to continue his education. Paws of War will also provide free training sessions to his adopter(s). We'll be sad to see him leave, but we know he has a wonderful future ahead. Milo is a four year old, 75 pound purebred fox red lab that was surrendered by his owner’s family after the owner died. He’s in boarding, good with the other dogs, and clean in his kennel, but you can tell that he misses being with people. Holden is a five year old yellow lab that was picked up as a stray in a rural shelter in S GA. He was lucky to find a foster when we got him up here. They say that Holden has a wonderful, calm, and eager to please personality. He gets along with kids, cats, and other dogs. He’s crate trained and is treat motivated and has already learned “sit.” His leash manners are a work in progress. He’s playful and loves to chase the ball and would do best with a fenced yard so he can run off his energy. He’s a Velcro dog - in the house he’s snuggly and prefers to be in the same room with people.
