RACCE’s Community Letter Writing Program promotes social connections with incarcerated youth across Connecticut by exchanging letters of support, messages of love and creative writing or artwork. On July 20th we are proud to be hosting Guest Speaker Michely Lopez as she shares her experience while incarcerated and the the importance of supporting incarcerated youth with letters of support. Join us for a transformative two-day experience designed to empower the Guilford County community. This dynamic event brings together inspiring speakers, engaging workshops, networking opportunities, and valuable resources to address our community’s challenges, all designed to address critical issues and identify viable solutions for a more equitable future. Day One: The Minority Economic Symposium with the theme “Closing the Wealth Divide: Empowering our Community for Financial Flourishing” is a transformative event designed to empower and equip the Guilford County, NC, Minority community on the path to economic prosperity. We will explore strategies and solutions for building wealth, achieving homeownership, launching and expanding businesses, and effectively transferring wealth across generations. Day Two: The Black Male Summit with the theme “From the Block to the Board Room: We Endeavor to See Black Men Go From Surviving to Thriving” will focus on holistic well-being, including mental health, physical health, relationships, workforce development, and personal growth. The Summit catalyzes positive change and aims to promote empowerment, connection, and action among Black men in our community. Do not miss this opportunity to be part of the solution! Extraordinarily, we live in precarious times. Contentious elections, vicious wars, climate catastrophes—we live in a time of anxiety and divisiveness. In the face of mounting threats, we ask, “How do we awaken the time we’re in? How do we work together for positive change despite our differences?” One way is to foster conversation at the grass-roots level. The “Community Healing Through Dialogue” program will include a talk on equanimous dialogue with Roberta Wall of the Center for Non-Violent Communication; and a speaker from Blue Cliff Monastery, a mindfulness practice center and monastic training center founded by the Vietnamese Buddhist monk, author, and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh. We then will enact what we have learned through a moderated discussion. The program will conclude with Robert Burke Warren leading us in a performance of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land.” Note: we chose to gather on this date, four years past the assault and occupation of the U.S. Capitol, as we sense this event holds a special place in our national psyche’s explicit and latent wound.

Beginning January 6, we’ll be hosting Musical Connections, 5-5:50 pm and Artistic Connections open studio, 6-7pm every Monday night through March 31. These programs are created and offered to help and support families who have been affected for the 2021 Christmas Parade. Healing isn’t linear and takes time. If you feel like your child would benefit from some social support and fun, please reach out to helpishere@unitedwaukesha.org

It was amazing connecting with the incredible women we’ve served through our Queens’ Care Program, the #Risktoreason initiative, and all those who have supported us on this journey.✨ Through Queens' Care, we’re committed to disrupting disparities in HIV prevention and care for Black women—amplifying voices that have been muted for far too long.
